The first time I learned about the Cultivating Safe Spaces Framework was life changing information! At the time I was in my mid twenties, in the Indigenous Youth Internship Program with the BC Provincial Government. Elaine Alec the Founder of Cultivating Safe Spaces, came to speak with our youth cohort virtually, then in circle in Victoria, BC. After circle, walking out of the space I felt, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically more confident, more aware and in tuned with myself including, my emotions and learning, "what's on my heart, what's on my mind?". I became able to understand myself on a deeper level. More in tune with understanding the human reality of states of minds we can find ourselves in that drive our behaviors. I became more aware of why people may find themselves in those different states and how to help them and myself get out of that "then and there" trauma brain or emotional state.

Prior to the training, I did not ever get the opportunity to find a training like this one! It was totally inwards work, looking at ourselves, as we are the only ones we can control 100%, no other, person, place or thing. This was one powerful teaching to take in, honor and trust, but it is so true! That is why the center of the framework is Understanding Self. You are the only one who can do this work for yourself and others. Knowing your limits, your strengths, your boundaries, when you are triggered, getting hangry, or irritated or annoyed etc. That is when the Cultivating Safe Spaces Framework and teachings come into help you and remind you how to Cultivate that safe space within you so you can be that for others around you.

This is the first step to #cultivatingsafespaces. Since becoming a Certified Cultivating Safe Spaces Facilitator in June 2023 I have taught over 1,000+ people & counting this amazing framework!

I have a virtual training coming up August 8th 9am-12pm pst. for First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples, register at tiny.cc/CSSAug8
